Big smiles, bright minds, great game! Mahjong Kids Camp is a fun and friendly introduction to Mahjong designed especially for younger players. Campers will learn the basics of the game through age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, crafts, and guided play in a warm, encouraging environment. Kids will begin learning on a kid-friendly Mahjong set designed to make the tiles and game flow easier to understand. Over the course of camp, they'll gradually transition to a traditional Mahjong set, helping them build confidence step by step. This camp focuses on learning, confidence, patience, pattern recognition, decision-making, creativity, and social connection — all while having fun around the Mahjong table. Campers will learn: - Tile recognition - How the game works - Simple beginner rules - Pattern matching and observation skills - Taking turns and table manners - Teamwork, patience, and confidence - How to enjoy Mahjong in a relaxed and social way Camp also includes ice cream and Mahjong-themed crafts, because learning should be fun, memorable, and just a little sweet! **Teen Mahjong Camp: Ages 13–17** Teen Mahjong Camp is a fun, focused, and social way for teens to learn the game of American Mahjong. Designed for ages 13–17, this camp introduces teens to the basics of Mahjong while building strategy, confidence, critical thinking, and connection. Whether they are completely new to the game or have played a little before, teens will learn in a supportive environment that makes Mahjong approachable, engaging, and fun. As the only dedicated Mahjong studio in the Charlotte area offering youth and teen programming, The Mahjong Studio is excited to help introduce a new generation of players to the game. Our goal is not just to teach teens how to play — it’s to help build a community of future Mahjong players who can continue learning, playing, and connecting beyond camp. Many families may already know Dollar Cone for our kids’ activities, camps, and workshops over the past three years. We’re excited to bring that same experience creating welcoming, well-organized youth programs to The Mahjong Studio. Campers will work on: * Tile recognition and game setup * How to read the NMJL card * Basic rules and game flow * Hand selection and beginner strategy * Charleston decisions * Pattern recognition and critical thinking * Friendly competition and table etiquette * Confidence through guided play Teen Mahjong Camp also includes ice cream, because a strategy camp should still feel like summer. Each camper will receive a special camp retail credit to use toward their own Mahjong set or Mahjong Studio retail purchase, plus special discounts on Mahjong Studio retail during camp.
